Rohit Bal: Latest News: Fashion designer Rohit Bal on life support at Medanta after heart failure | Gurgaon News

GURGAON: Fashion designers Rohit Bal was put on ventilator support on Monday evening at Medanta hospital after he had a heart failure.
Doctors said Bal (61) was admitted on November 23 with complications like dilated cardiomyopathy, uncontrolled diabetes and acute kidney failure. A hospital source described his condition as ‘critical’. He is under the supervision of cardiologist Dr Praveen Chandra. According to a hospital source, “Bal experienced acute chest pain, after which he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors carried out some tests and diagnosed that he was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy.”
This is a condition in which the heart muscle becomes weakened and enlarged. As a result, the heart cannot pump enough blood to the rest of the body. Dilated cardiomyopathy may be the result of different underlying conditions, doctors say.
The fashion designer was also treated in Medanta last November for related health complications. Back in February 2010, he had undergone an emergency angioplasty when he had a heart attack. Gudda to the fashion fraternity, Bal is known for his trademark lotus and peacock motifs and his promotion of Kashmiri crafts and weaves. The man who staged grand fashion shows and brought an air of flamboyance to the ramp was not seen at public events for the last year, owing to his poor health. “Monday evening, his condition worsened and his heart was sinking when he was put on the ventilator,” said Bal’s friend, who was taking updates from his family.
